World’s Largest Hedge Fund Sued for Discrimination After Firing Worker with Family Health Crisis
Connecticut based SS&C Technologies (“the world’s largest independent hedge fund and private equity administrator”) has been accused of wrongful termination by a former employee.
Dan Eigo, a 33-year veteran of the technology sector worked as an Enterprise Sales Director for SSS&C Technologies, Inc. from May 2022 to December 2023. Eigo says the relationship was harmonious until he experienced physical limitations due to his back and then went completely sour when Eigo’s wife was diagnosed with cancer.
Karen Dunn (“Ms. Dunn”) was SS&C’s Regional Vice President and Eigo’s boss.
According to Eigo, “In mid-June 2023, I scheduled back surgery for August 15, 2023. I made Ms. Dunn aware of my ongoing back problems and need for surgery shortly after she became my supervisor. In mid-July 2023, my wife received a cancer diagnosis following the results of a biopsy.I told Ms. Dunn about my wife’s cancer diagnosis. Later that month in a face-to-face meeting in New York, Ms. Dunn appeared frustrated that I had personal concerns (both mine and my wife’s medical condition). Ms. Dunn told me “This isn’t my problem, Tell it to HR.”
On or about December 1, 2023, Ms. Dunn terminated Eigo’s employment. Shejustified the termination by saying it was “performance based” which according SS&C’s own records is not true. Eigo was easily in the top 25% of his peers in both empirical achievement and relative to his group.
“In the twelve (12) months prior to my termination, Eigo closed approximately twenty million dollars ($20M) in total contract value. His abrupt and wrongful termination deprived him of receiving due compensation. From a wider perspective, SS&C would have had more than reasonable motivation to save money by cutting Eigo.” said Brendan Chao, Dan Eigo’s Attorney & Counsellor at Law.
“I was appalled by the total lack of compassion demonstrated by SS&C and Ms. Dunn. Their decision to terminate me and withhold compensation added an unexpected financial hardship to an already difficult situation” said Eigo.
